On the other hand, Raila Odinga emerged as the second most preferred candidate with 27.1 percent of residents saying they would vote for him.

ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi came third, with 5.2 percent of Kenyans from the 11 counties endorsing him for the 2022 presidency.

The poll further showed that William Ruto’s UDA Party is the most popular in the region at 61.7 percent, with Raila’s ODM following at 22.4 percent.

Even though it has been termed as a dead party, the Mizani survey showed that Jubilee is still popular among 10.2 percent of Mt Kenya residents.

On the running mate position, the survey showed that Martha Karua is the most preferred woman to be the deputy president from Mt Kenya at 34.8 percent.

For male politicians, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi stood out as 28.7% of the respondents said they would like him to be the next deputy president of Kenya from the Mt Kenya region.

There has been a scramble over the Mt Kenya region, with both Raila Odinga and William Ruto seeking to establish a political base there.

Ruto had been crisscrossing the Mt Kenya region since 2019 with Raila Odinga joining the vote hunt in late 2020 with the support of some of the Mt Kenya Foundation.

Raila’s recent visits to Mt Kenya saw Ruto taking a swipe at him, saying he had already won the Mt Kenya vote.

“There are people who have realized today there is a mountain and are now looking for it on Google Maps. They should know that I call the shots here,” Ruto said on October 9.
