Opinion: Why is Jimmy Wanjigi playing politics of hatred and provocation?

by Enock Ndayala

Jimmy Wanjigi, has been playing politics of hatred and provocation, hardly three months since he was registered as an ODM party member.

After registration Wanjigi has gone ahead to technically form a parallel wing in the ODM party and has opted to ignore the party structure.

In his first visit to Nyanza, local party leaders said they had not been informed of the visit and wondered why Wanjigi had not involved them.

Jimmy Wanjigi has been playing politics of hatred and provocation, hardly three months since he was registered as an ODM party member.

Wanjigi has instead opted to incorporate comedian Erick Omondi in his political tour of the region.

For the residents Omondi is viewed as one who creates laughter through his comedy and his entry into the region with Wanjigi could be viewed as just another comedy.

But looking at the emerging violent scenes witnessed on his visit, one wonders what Wanjigi could be up to.

Migori County is governor Okoth Obado political backyard. Obado calls the shots in the region and is seen as the de facto leader of Migori politics.

During the last General Election, Obado’s supporters sent governor Hassan Joho, Anyang Nyong’o, and Siaya Senator James Orengo scampering for safety at Migori stadium during a rally.

Jimmy Wanjigi was in Homa bay which is the epicenter of the Orange Democratic Movement.

In Homa Bay, the residents never bothered with him. He was allowed to conduct his campaigns peacefully.

ON Friday, September 17, Jimmy Wanjigi was in Migori which is half controlled by ODM and half by Okoth Obado’s PDP. And here he was greeted by stone throwing-youths.

Again Wanjigi has been uncomfortable with the Raila-Uhuru alliance and this could have prompted him to stir the waters within.

Similarly, Wanjigi seems to hold a grudge against president Uhuru and that is why he has opted to oppose Raila.

The begging question is why is Wanjigi out to create history by trying to create division in ODM.

Who could probably be behind the move?

The Luo community after the handshake has been peaceful and for the last four years, no demonstrations have been witnessed in the region.
