President Uhuru leads Kenyans in sending glowing tributes to Orie Rogo Manduli

One of Kenya’s most flamboyant and vocal female leaders, Orie Rogo Manduli was pronounced dead on Wednesday, September 8.

According to the family, their matriarch took her last breath at her home in Riverside, Nairobi after a long illness.

Orie Rogo, who was a former Member of Parliament held various positions in both government and private sectors. She is the first woman to head the Kenya Non-Governmental COuncil (NGO) council.

Manduli, the first African woman rally driver had a background in journalism and was an icon in the fashion industry.

She won the Miss Kenya crown at the age of 16 and was until later in her life knows for her flamboyant fashion sense.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, September 9 led the nation in mourning Orie Rogo Manduli, describing her as the country’s most recognisable, highly charismatic, and accomplished politician.

The president remembered the 73-year-old Manduli for her bold character in political and leadership scenes.

“The late Orie Rogo Manduli was a woman of many firsts who never shied away from exploring new horizons,

“She took up and excelled in motorsports at a time when many African women would never have dared thereby opening up the sport to women drivers in later years,” read part of Uhuru’s tribute.

The Head of State also recognised Manduli’s impact in the fashion and beauty industry.

“Mama Orie Rogo Manduli was a fashion icon whose trademark African print attire and prominent headgear made her one of Africa’s most recognisable personalities,” Uhuru went on with his glowing tribute..

Other than the Head of State, other leaders have sent their tributes and condolences to Orie Rogo’s family.

“She was a charismatic & courageous leader who will be remembered for her straight-talking nature & commitment to women rights. Her love for African fashion & style will never be forgotten,” wrote ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi.

Before her demise, the vocal Orie Rogo had disappeared from the public eyes.
