by Enock Ndayala

Retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, September 6, paid a courtesy call to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at his Karen residence in Nairobi.

Photos of the meeting between the President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition captain Raila Odinga were widely shared by sources close to the two leaders.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s eldest son Jomo Kenyatta was also present during the visit that featured Siaya governor-elect James Orengo, Raila’s wife Ida Odinga, their daughter Winnie Odinga, Raila’s lawyer Paul Mwangi, and Professor Makau Mutua.

Kivumbi.co.ke could not immediately establish the finer details of the meeting but highly placed sources at the meeting revealed that the two discussed the just-ended August 9, presidential election.

It further speculated that the duo discussed matters of national interest among them the recent Supreme Court of Kenya verdict that dismissed Raila’s presidential petition.

Uhuru’s visit to Raila and his family comes just a day after the humiliating loss in his presidential election results petition at the Supreme Court.

It further comes at a time when the former Prime Minister appeared to have a swollen face in what appeared as if he had been involved in a minor accident.

It is understood that the seven judges of the apex court upheld IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati’s declaration that William Ruto was legally elected the president.

Both Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta have since disagreed with the Supreme Court judgment but said they would respect the outcome.

Already, President Uhuru Kenyatta, who had endorsed his handshake partner Raila Odinga has promised a smooth transition process.

Uhuru in his address to the nation shortly after the Supreme Court verdict questioned the consistency of the independent institutions.

While acknowledging the verdict, Uhuru chose to steer clear of William Ruto’s victory and only referred to Ruto’s election as results announced by IEBC.
