Pastor says Kenya Kwisha instead of Kenya Kwanza during prayers as Ruto hosts women

by Enock Ndayala

On Friday, June 10, Deputy President William Ruto hosted women leaders where he signed the women’s charter at the Nyayo Stadium in a bid to win women to his side ahead of his titanic battle with Raila Odinga for the presidency.

The event was attended by women groups from across the country in what many have said is informed by Raila Odinga’s choice of Martha Karua as a running mate.

Immediately after William Ruto arrived at the highly publicized event, Kandara MP Alice Wahome invited Evangelist Jane Wairimu from the larger A.I.P.C. church in Nairobi to lead with a word of prayer.

The passionate evangelist took the mic and without much ado, she started greeting the hundreds of women before engaging in praying, unbeknown to her and many that she was about to still the show.

In a seeming slip of the tongue, the Evangelist referred to the Kenya Kwanza alliance, a political faction led by William Ruto as Kenya Kwisha leaving Kenyans with questions regarding her loyalty.

In a video doing rounds on social media, the evangelist further asked the heavens to intervene on behalf of the ‘Kenya Kwisha’ instead of Kenya Kwanza setting tongues wagging.

“We want to into agreement with the Kenya Kwisha…with the Kenya Kwanza woman that every handwriting has been erased,” she said gathering who had filled up the auditorium burst into laughter amid prayers.

Evangelist Wairimu quickly corrected herself, a move that caught 2022 presidential election front runner William Ruto and his presidential runningmate Rigathi Gachagua by surprise.

The ‘Kenya Kwisha’ is a phrase commonly used by the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya alliance to mock William Ruto’s political faction.

This is not the first incident where William Ruto’s allied people have accidentally spoken words that have seemed to benefit his 2022 bitter rival, Raila Odinga.

In May 2022, a video of Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen drumming up support for Azimio la Umoja presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga emerged.

Murkomen, who was speaking during a burial ceremony in Mathira Constituency in his speech, said that it was clear to him that they would vote for Raila

“So we know who we are voting for. We are voting for Raila Odinga. He cannot confuse us by trying to put some cherry on the cake to confuse the people of Kenya. We are very clear in our mind,” Murkome said without even noticing he had drummed up support for a political rival.
