Long and winding queues have been witnessed in Sagana, Nyeri county ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s planned meeting where he is expected to give the region a political direction as far as his succession is concerned.

The residents, drawn from all the Mt Kenya counties, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Nakuru, Laikipia, Murang’a, and Nyandarua started arriving at Sagana State Lodge as early as 5am.

Sources revealed to Kivumbi.co.ke that police officers had a hectic time managing the huge number of residents looking forward to listening to their son, who is expected to among other things, officially endorse ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency.

The turn-out is reported to have been more than anticipated by the organisers such that many were turned away for not having invitation cards.

The meeting is expected to have a major bearing on the political direction the region will take just five months to the August 9 general election.

President Uhuru is expected to chair the meeting in what political pundits have said is a deliberate move by the president to minimize the perceived influence of Deputy President William Ruto in the region.

He is expected to use the meeting, dubbed “Sagana 3” to push for a common political stand on the August 9 presidenrtial election.

It is highly expected that the head of state will use the Sagana meeting to officially launch an aggressive campaign for his handshake partner, the ODM leader Raila Odinga.

In an interview with The People Daily, Gatanga MP Ngugi Nduati said they were hoping the president would finally reveal the reasons for his breakup with DP William Ruto.

“We will be waiting to hear him tell us what it is that his deputy did to him, leading to their fall out… People still do not know what caused the fallout. We will also be waiting to hear him tell us what political direction the region will take and how that will happen.

“He will also be explaining to us why he feels that we are safe under Azimio la Umoja and what the region’s stake is in Azimio in terms of how the coalition agreement will be drawn and implemented,” Ngugi told People Daily recently.
