Planned ODM-Jubilee coalition is primitive – Alfred Mutua

by Enock Ndayala

Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader Alfred Mutua has strongly but indirectly criticised the planned ODM-Jubilee merger saying the coalition is primitive as it is basically anchored on tribalism.

Speaking in Kwale County on Thursday, June 24, Mutua, who is on a tour to the Coast region to seek support, said what the country needs now is a coalition that is anchored on ideas that will create employment for Kenyans.

“We have seen people say that are uniting their parties. It is okay and not bad. But in our country, we need coalitions that are based on ideological … coalitions that will bring jobs to Kenyans,

Speaking in Kwale County on Thursday, June 24, Alfred Mutua, who is on a tour to the Coast region to seek support, said what the country needs now is a coalition that is anchored on ideologies that will create employment for Kenyans.

“It is not tribal coalitions… you say let us form a coalition with this leader because he is from that tribe…that is primitive thinking…Ideas that were planted by the colonialists,” Mutua said.

Alfred Mutua joins a growing list of politicians who have taken a swipe-either directly or indirectly- at the the planned Jubilee-ODM merger ahead of 2022 elections.

Last week, Jubilee Party which is perceived to be on its deathbed, announced that it is in talks with Raila’s ODM party to unite and work together ahead of the 2022 General Election.

“This is just one of the many meetings we have had and are working on ways to formalize the handshake into a broad-based coalition for the sake of 2022,” Raphael Tuju said.

It is understood that Uhuru and Raila will field one presidential candidate to face off with Ruto as part of the coalition deal.

Analysts say the planned ODM- Jubilee coalition is a conspiracy to block DP Ruto from succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Former Kakamega senator Boni Khwalwale, Ruto’s ally, while laughing off the planned ODM-Jubilee alliance said it will require magic to work.

“Why I am saying it requires magic, is because the intention of that coalition is purely to enable people to achieve ethnic mobilisation,” Boni Khalwale said.

The Machakos Governor further ruled out possibilities of him forming a coalition with Kenya’s deputy president William Ruto ahead of the much anticipated 2022 General Election.

he said he cannot work with ‘corrupt’ leaders adding that the DP has been dragged in several corruption allegations.

“Will Ruto have a government that will really fight corruption while he himself has been accused of corruption?” he posed.
