Police officers guarding William Ruto home say they’re denied food

by Nderi Caren

Administration Police officers guarding William Ruto home in Karen have complained of being denied food or meal allowances.

In a letter to the Ministry of Interior dated November 11 and seen by Kivumbi.co.ke, secretary in the ministry of internal security said the guards at William Ruto home are unable to discharge their duties due to starvation.

The letter stated that the starvation affects guards in William Ruto’s official residence and his private residence in Karen.

“They are deployed there permanently for day and night duties and can not move out to get food supplies,” read part of the letter.

The secretary of internal security argued that the Administration Police officers are being treated differently from their GSU counterparts who were recalled from Ruto’s homes on August 26, 2021.

“This is in contrast [with] their counterparts from GSU who were replaced and used to get food rations.”

The letter demanded that the guard’s concerns be addressed immediately.

“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to request that you reinstate the food rations for the officers currently deployed in the two residences for optimal service delivery,” it states.

The security changes that were made on William Ruto’s home sparked outrage from his allies, who accused the Interior Ministry of exposing the DP to threats.

“This is the latest installment in a sustained and systematic effort to undermine the deputy president’s personal security in pursuit of a political vendetta, and is consistent with a strategy to expose the deputy president of the republic to personal harm,” read a letter from Ruto’s communications officer David Mugonyi.

Later, Ruto changed his tune, welcoming the new security team over a cup of tea.

“Sharing a cup of tea with the new security team as I welcome them to the Official Residence of the Deputy President,” he shared on his social media.
