Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi asks President Ruto to arrest Raila ‘test Kenya’s democracy’

by Enock Ndayala

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has challenged President William Ruto to arrest opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Mutahi said it is time the Head of State must act and test the state of Kenyan democracy by arresting the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party leader.

He however cautioned that while it is a worthy thing to be done, arresting Raila will not work.

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has challenged President William Ruto to arrest opposition leader Raila Odinga.

“Dear Ruto, what happens after #MaandamanoThursdays then Monday? Will you do something or kill someone? Arresting Raila will not work. But it is worth trying. You need to test the limits of our democracy. It is just an experiment.  Or is it?” the analyst posed.

This comes just days after the Inspector of Police General Japheth Koome threatened to arrest Raila Odinga if he would continue with his bi-weekly protests.

Koome warned Azimio protestors including the former Prime Minister against participating in the Monday, March 27, protests and threatened to arrest those who will be found picketing.

“If you are planning to demonstrate tomorrow, you will be dealt with accordingly. Whoever you are, it doesn’t matter,” said Koome.

However, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna revealed that the Kenya Kwanza government wants Raila arrested but no one is willing to execute the arrest.

“Their minions are in agreement that Baba (Raila Odinga) needs to be arrested. However, where they are stuck is the person who will make the arrest,” Sifuna said.

Adding: “Let them agree amongst themselves who will come and arrest Raila.”

But speaking during a church service at Jesus Teaching Ministry in Embakasi on Sunday, March 26, Raila challenged the IG to personally arrest him.

He warned Koome against misusing junior police officers stating that he was readily available for the arrest by the IG himself.

“I have heard you saying that you are going to arrest everyone. I am ready for you. Koome, don’t even send police officers to come and arrest me. Come and arrest me personally. Come and face me one on one),” Odinga said.
