by Enock Ndayala

Roysambu Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Warutere has defended himself in regard to the recent incident in which he was caught sleeping during a live session.

On Tuesday, October 26, Warutere was caught red-handed on camera sleeping while an important debate was ongoing on the floor of the house.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, October 28, shortly after moving a motion that compels the county to develop a policy that will help reduce the spread of infectious diseases, the youthful Jubilee politician claimed he was not napping but simply reflecting on the motion before the house.

“I was not sleeping intentionally. I was thinking of what to contribute to the motion that was taking place on the floor,” Warutere said.

The ward representative further stated that it was not a crime to sleep in the assembly adding that even the ODM leader Raila Odinga does sleep in public functions whenever he feels fatigued.

“Even Raila Odinga at times he does close his eyes while in public functions, but that doesn’t mean he is asleep,” he added.

The politician went ahead saying he decided to take a three-minute rest since he had a long drive from Eldoret to Nairobi without rest before attending the assembly session.

“I had covered over 550 kilometers on the road so it was only natural that l take a small rest,” he said.

The legislator claimed that he felt a bit tired and found it necessary to take a small rest before resuming the normal assembly business.

Warutere claimed that he is not only the most hardworking but also the most active MCA in Nairobi as he usually wakes up by 4 am to ensure that city resident gets quality services.

“Am the most hardworking MCA in this assembly, my day begins as early as 4 am to ensure Nairobi residents get good services,” Warutere said.
