ODM leader Raila Odinga on Monday, March 20, announced that he will be holding two protests every week starting next week.
Raila who lost his fifth stab at the Presidency to William Ruto in the 2022 General Election maintained that his 2022 victory was snatched.
As such, the former Prime Minister wants his arc-rival in the 2022 presidential election to expedite the opening of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as he pushes to reclaim his win.
“Fellow Kenyans, in the second phase of our protest and in response to public demand, we shall now hold protests every Monday and every Thursday beginning next week.”
“We reiterate to our supporters and all patriotic Kenyans that this struggle is just starting. We are not looking back; we will not be intimidated. No retreat, no surrender,” he exclaimed.
However, Kenya’s President William Ruto has advised the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga to focus on the 2027 elections.
“I urge my competitor to cut off demonstrations and prepare himself for the 2027 elections if he is interested,” President Ruto said.
Ruto who was speaking in Kisii during his three day State visit to the Nyanza region argued that Raila’s call for protests was a disturbance to the citizens and argued that the Monday, March 20, mass action left hawkers, mama mboga, and boda boda riders unable to work.
Ruto, instead dared Rtd President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake partner to face him personally.
“Touts did not work on Monday as well as traders, boda bodas, and kiosk owners. What are you asking them? If you have a problem, face me. Stop disturbing citizens.
“Let me ask you (citizens), the person who competed with him is me. Why is he disturbing mama mboga? Stop disturbing the citizens, if you have a problem, come face me. I defeated you,” the president added.
