Kenya’s President William Ruto on Wednesday, December 21, turned 56 years old.

Ruto while speaking in Kirinyaga County in October 2022, while commissioning the Thiba dam, said that he will launch a tree-planting campaign on his birthday.

As such, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed in a statement said that President William Ruto will plant 56 trees at Ngong Hills Forest in Kajiado County commensurate to his age.

Hussein said the move was in line with President William Ruto’s plan that targets planting more than 15 billion trees in 10 years.

“The president will plant 56 trees on his 56th birthday and kick start the tree growing campaign that targets to mobilize the nation in growing 15 billion trees by 2032,” Hussein Mohamed said.

The Kenya Forest Service confirmed the move saying that William Ruto’s 56 years will mark a new beginning of the country’s journey towards achieving 32 percent national tree cover by 2032.

“We have begun this journey and KFS is ready. Are you?” KFS said.

Two months ago, the president urged Kenyan parents to plant 100 trees during their children’s birthday celebrations.

“Every parent should plant 100 trees for their child during birthday celebrations. We are facing a severe drought that has never been witnessed in 40 years as a result of climate change,” Ruto said.

Earlier on, Kivumbi.co.ke reported that President William Ruto’s birthday had coincidentally celebrated on the day he officialized his wedding.

Ruto who was born on December 21, 1966, officially married First Lady Mama Rachael Ruto on December 21, 1991, at the AIC church.

As the country joined the First in Command to celebrate his birthday, his wife on the other side was commemorating the over 30 years she has been together with the president.

“Happy Birthday and happy wedding Anniversary Bill (President William Ruto) The Lord has been Faithful,” Rachael Ruto said in a Tweet.
