Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Committee (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati was on Thursday, September 28, expected to appear before the National Dialogue Committee.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Sunday, January 29, claimed that IEBC officials paid him a visit just before the official announcement of the 2022 presidential results.

Raila who was addressing his supporters at the Jacaranda stadium said IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, and Commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu

Raila further dared Chebukati and the two Commissioners to reveal to Kenyans their reason for visiting his home days before announcing presidential poll results.

“Chebukati is saying there are people who tried to bribe him, even his other colleagues Guliye and Molu. I want to ask them what did you come to do at my house? What did they ask me for? I have pictures and if they continue playing I will make them public.” Raila said.

However, speaking on Monday, January 30, Kenya’s President William Ruto dismissed Raila’s claims saying they were based on whispers.

Ruto, who spoke during the launch of the 16th Annual General Meeting and Conference of Africa Prosecutors’ Association, Mombasa County questioned why the opposition leader failed to submit the claim evidence before the Supreme Court and the IEBC tribunal.

The Head of State further wondered why the former Prime Minister can raise such a sensitive matter five months after the hotly contested 2022 presidential elections.

“I heard yesterday a politician telling this story those IEBC officials visited him. He is telling the story five months after the act…. If it is true that IEBC officials visited you what were they doing in your house at your invitation?” President Ruto posed.

In his response, the president has also weighed in on the matter, challenging him to also disclose why he invited Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials to his home.

“Being a candidate, how did you end up inviting officials on an independent body to your house?” Ruto wondered.
