President William Ruto’s daughter Charlene Ruto on Monday, December 13, sensationally revealed that she runs the office of the first daughter.

Addressing delegates at the 2022 Youth Lead Summit held at the East African Community headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania Charlene introduced members of her staff causing public uproar on who funds the activities of the office.

“Before again I continue, I wanted to introduce quickly my team from Kenya. So, I’ll start with the back. This is Mike Sagana, he’s one of my team members. He’s a politician and he’s my principal advisor on my team.

“And this is Jermaine Momanyi, he is the head of trade and investments at the office of the first daughter…” Charlene Ruto said amid claps and laughter from the audience.

Following public outcry, President Ruto’s daughter on Wednesday, December 14, clarified the existence of the office of the first daughter.

In a statement, Charlene said her office is a private entity and that it was not being run using the taxpayers’ money.

“The Office of the First Daughter is a private entity. It is neither a constitutional office nor is it being funded by Kenyan taxpayers. It purely facilitates the activities and programs run by myself,” Charlene Ruto said.

She said further noted that although her office is unconstitutional, it has been engaging different stakeholders as part of its objectives, which includes pushing for youth-based agendas and climate change advocacy.

“Through its independent structure and facilitators, the office has engaged various players across Kenya and beyond in line with some of its objectives of championing youth-based agenda and climate change advocacy,” she added.
