On Tuesday, September 13, Kenya’s President William Ruto was sworn into office as the fifth President.

Notably, among those who attended was Turkish Businessman Harun Aydin who was deported by Interior Security CS Fred Matiang’i one year ago.

Aydin was spotted in the company of former Kiminini Member of Parliament (MP) Chris Wamalwa and Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang who also attended the luncheon.

“Joined special guests at State House for the luncheon of the inauguration of the 5th President William Ruto,” Trans Nzoia gubernatorial candidate in the just-ended General Election Eugine Wamalwa captioned.

Aydin’s return comes a year after he was deported to Istanbul, Turkey, following an intense grilling session at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.

He was part of the entourage that was traveling with the then deputy president William Ruto to Uganda on August 2, 2021, when they were blocked from leaving the country.

Aydin was arrested on August 7, 2021, at the Wilson Airport when he was entering Kenya from Uganda.

The Turkish was later taken to Anti-Terror Police Nairobi offices on Ngong road where he was detained over money laundering and terrorist links among other charges.

But speaking during one of his media interviews, the now Kenya’s fifth President William Ruto defended from accusations of financing terrorism, terming him an investor.

Ruto while castigating his arrest termed the move as a political witch hunt targeting his allies.

“Turkish investor, Aydin Harun, is a victim of top-down arrogance bred by patronage and cartels that criminalize enterprise. Importers’ goods declared contraband, African spirits closed, Keroche harassed, now an investor with valid papers labeled a terrorist. The tragedy of political pettiness,” Ruto said.
