President Uhuru advises Mt Kenya region to take William Ruto’s money but…

In September 2022, President William Ruto appointed his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta as his peace envoy for the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa.

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has advised the vote-rich Mt Kenya region to take Deputy President William Ruto’s money but be alert not to fall for what he termed as empty lies.

Speaking in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County on Monday, October 18, President Kenyatta advised electorates in his stronghold to scrutinise and evaluate all the presidential aspirants seeking to succeed him in the 2022 General Election.

In an apparent attack on his estranged Deputy President William Ruto, the Head of State urged the region not to turn down the financial offers from the wealthy presidential hopefuls but urged them to vote wisely.

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has advised the vote-rich Mt Kenya region to take Deputy President William Ruto’s money but be alert not to fall for his empty lies.

“But should I say, if they (those courting you) are loaded with wealth and feel generous to give you something, take, but tell them that you will think through their proposals,” the president said.

Kenyatta who appears to have settled on the ODM leader Raila Odinga as his preferred successor said the region needs time to decide the path it shall take politically and not be pressed to pick a candidate.

Uhuru further warned the Mt Kenya residents not to be carried by sweets words by those campaigning against their leaders adding that their main aim is to use the region’s numbers for their own selfish gains.

“Be careful not to be carried away by their words lest you regret why they advised you to dump your leaders,” he said.

He urged the Kenyans at large to be alert while being wooed calling them to keenly assess the suitability of the presidential aspirants who are keen to succeed him as president.

“Use your discretion to critically evaluate what they are telling you. Be on the watch out and judge them by their words. Some words are sweet, but do not always bear sweet fruits,” he said.
