President Uhuru blasts Mudavadi for lecturing him about economy

by Enock Ndayala

President Uhuru Kenyatta has castigated ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi for accusing him of ruining Kenya’s economy.

The Head of State, without mentioning names, said Kenya’s economy has grown tremendously during his term as the president than it did under Mudavadi when he served as the Minister for Finance (in the mid ’90s).

“You know sometimes I hear my colleagues (Musalia Mudavadi) talking and giving me lectures about how to do an economy… Wanaongea ni kama watu hawajakuwa ndani ya serikali (They speak like they have never been in government),

“I want you to look at the rate of the economy when they were in charge of the Finance docket and compare it with my term and tell me who understands the economy better than who,” a visibly angry Uhuru said.

Speaking during his presidential bid launch at Bomas of Kenya on Sunday, January 23, the former One Kenya Alliance (OKA) co-principal blamed President Uhuru Kenyatta for the economic hardships Kenyans are facing.

Mudavadi, who recently joined Deputy President William Ruto’s bottom-up economic model, asked Kenyans to reject his (Uhuru’s) preferred successor adding that Kenya is broke and in bad economic shape because of bad debt and ‘thieves’.

“How can we be proud that the government has bankrupted themselves and the people. How can we accept to live on our knees,” Mudavadi said.

But the president defended the country’s ballooning debt saying it has helped the country’s economic rates to grow.

According to, Kenyans are burdened because a few people do not pay taxes and are behind mega corruption.

“They don’t pay taxes. They are the biggest burden Kenyans have to carry. We must reject their political projects and their sinister schemes in this year’s elections,” he said.
