President Uhuru invites Raila, OKA principals to dinner with visiting president

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, January 17, invited ODM leader Raila Odinga and One Kenya Alliance principals to dinner with visiting president Janos Ader of Hungary.

A dispatch from the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU) confirmed that Kanu chair Gideon Moi, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, and Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka were all present.

While the details of the meeting remain unclear, it is speculated that the 2022 succession politics topped the Agenda.

The move by OKA principals to honor President Uhuru’s banquet comes barely days after Mudavadi, Kalonzo, Wetang’ula, and Gideon Moi skipped a luncheon that was held at State House on Thursday, January 13, despite getting invites.

Speaking during a state banquet he hosted together with First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Uhuru said Kenya was counting on the support of Hungary to unlock the economic partnership agreement between the East African Community and the European Union.

“Kenya looks forward to the signing of the Economic Partnership Agreement between the East African Community and the European Union to open up greater trading and economic opportunities,” he said.

This brings to three, the number of President Uhuru’s meetings with OKA principals ahead of the August 9, General Election.

In August 2021, the Head of State summoned Raila Odinga and the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) four principals to State House Mombasa in what appeared to be a culmination of his decision to back his handshake partner to succeed him.

The Wednesday, August 18, the meeting was a follow-up to the one which focused on forming a formidable team to face his estranged Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.

It is believed that the president is persuading former National Super Alliance principals to unite with Raila Odinga as the clock ticks towards the 2022 elections.
