President Uhuru Kenyatta shakes up Jubilee party ahead of 2022 General Election

by Enock Ndayala

After losing several by-elections that saw members call for changes, President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally bowed down to pressure to reform Jubilee party ahead of the 2022 General Election.

In the changes which were endorsed by Jubilee party leader President Uhuru Kenyatta, former nominated MP Osman Hasan, lawyer Kamau Mbugua and former Kangema MP Titus Ngahu were appointed as Senior Directors for Outreach, Legal and Elections and Membership, respectively.

As part of the move to reform Jubilee party, the outfit further appointed Wambui Gichuru as Jubilee’s Acting Executive Director while Albert Memusi retained his position as the party’s Communications Director.

According to the Communications Director, the reforms in the Jubilee leadership are aimed at restoring the once most powerful political party which analysts claim had lost its glory.

“The retreat brought together the three teams in leadership and management to deliberate on a number of changes that are aimed at revamping the party ahead of 2022,” Memusi said.

This comes barely weeks after Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru and Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu called for the Jubilee party to institute urgent measures that would salvage the ‘collapsing’ party.

“As things stand I will not be surprised if we lose another one or two more valuable players. We have some heavy lifting ahead to fix our party and not everyone will want to do it,

“For those of us who still believe in Jubilee, this is a lesson and a warning. Let us focus on what is important, as we fix this party. Then we will stop the loss of more valuable players,” Wambugu said.

This was after several members of the Jubilee party had ditched the outfit with the latest being Kiambu County woman rep Gathoni Wamuchomba and Mombasa tycoon Suleiman Shahbal.

Jubilee lost in Juja by-elections to the little-known People’s Empowerment Party, which is associated with Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, and in Bonchari to ODM.

Jubilee further lost ward elections in Nakuru (London ward), Gaturi in Kiharu, and Rurii in Nyandarua County.
