President Uhuru okays ousting of Murathe and Tuju from Jubilee leadership

President Uhuru Kenyatta has bowed to calls to kick David Murathe and Raphael Tuju out of Jubilee leadership.

During a meeting with Kieleweke-allied leaders from Mt Kenya on Friday, President Uhuru Kenyatta was urged to make changes to the Vice-chair and Secretary General positions which are respectively held by David Murathe and Raphael Tuju.

The Kieleweke MPs and MCAs from Mt Kenya told Uhuru that Murathe and Tuju have become stumbling blocks to the growth of the party, and have hindered necessary reforms.

President Uhuru gave the legislators two weeks to recommend the potential candidates to take over the jubilee leadership from Murathe and Tuju.

Further, the report indicated that President Uhuru has not been defending Murathe and Tuju against calls by members to change the party leadership.

Nyeri Town MP Ngujiri Wambugu told the Star Newspaper that the Head of State assured them that they are at liberty to make changes to Jubilee leadership.

“The president confirmed that the Jubilee Party belongs to us as the next generation of political leaders. He said if and where we want changes made, they will be made and he will support our decision,” Ngujiri Wambugu said.

The revelations from the Jubilee caucus meeting follow a statement by Raphael Tuju and David Murathe where they said members can not eject them from party positions.

In a past interview on KTN News, David Murathe told those calling for his removal to leave the party instead.

He stated that only President Uhuru Kenyatta can eject them from the leadership positions.

“We are interim officials and if they have a problem with us they just need to call the party leader to get rid of us. We are only responsible to the party leader. We take our briefs from the party leader,” Murathe said.
