Uhuru said supporting his deputy, William Ruto, was akin to playing with fire and that only his handshake partner would save them.

President Kenyatta urged Kenyans to vote for the 77-year-old president saying the former Prime Minister has proved to be a genuine leader who cares for the interests of all citizens.

“Please try this old man who is humble and focused. This job requires someone with wisdom to run the affairs of the country

“Old age is not a disease, what is important is a person who has the people at heart, a person with humility, a man who is not interested in chasing money and other people’s wives,” President Uhuru said.

At the same time, the President cautioned Kenyans against falling into the trap of smooth-talking politicians who do not have the interests of the country at heart.

“If you want to be delivered, the only way is Baba (referring to Raila Odinga), it’s better to have an elder who is humble, who isn’t interested in stuffing his pockets, who will take care of his people’s welfare than a man with sweet words but only intends to plunder the national coffers and split the spoils among his friends,” said President Uhuru.

The outgoing Head of State further announced a KSh 500 million bailout to offset arrears owed to Nzoia Sugar farmers and workers.

Uhuru directed Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya to ensure KSh 450 million owed to farmers is accredited to their bank accounts while KSh 50 million is paid to the factory workers by Friday this week.
