by Amos Khaemba

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s childhood driver, Robert Mugo Mboi has called on the president to buy him a piece of land and a car as a reward for serving the first family.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Nation, Mugo- now 78 years old- claimed that the reward was a promise President Uhuru’s late father, Jomo Kenyatta who passed on in 1978.

Mboi’s wife, Annette Njeri who was also present during the interview, said a piece of land will alleviate their poverty.

“We want a shamba (a piece of land). We have a lot of problems due to the lack of land. We have a small plot and he has many children,” Njeri said.

The aging Mboi revealed that he has tried unsuccessfully to meet President Uhuru so that he could explain his predicament.

He said he is facing financial difficulties and that the reward of a parcel of land to will improve his life and that of his grandchildren who he says have graduated but have not secured employment.

“Kama ingewezekana tuonane hivi itakuwa vizuri zaidi, ( I would be happy if it was possible to meet him)” Mboi said in the interview.

“I also have three grandchildren who are graduates but have no job. I would love to see them employed.” He added.

During the interview, Mboi, a retired GSU constable recounted how he drove young Uhuru, his brother Muhoho and his sister Nyokabi from Gatundu to Nairobi’s St Mary’s School every morning

The retired constable who currently resides in the Gichugu constituency claimed the last time he saw the President was during the election campaign in 2017.

“We met at Kirinyaga. He asked me ‘Have you met Mum?’ I said ‘I can’t get there lest I be beaten. He told me, ‘Give me your number.’ The number was taken by his people and that got lost there,” he said.
