President Uhuru’s cousin faults him for insulting Ruto

by Enock Ndayala

The cold war between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto has gone a notch higher just days before the August 9, General Election.

For the better part of their second term, the duo has been cautiously confronting each other following their political fallout in early 2018 when President Uhuru entered a partnership deal with his former rival Raila Odinga.

Last week, the UDA presidential candidate claimed that the Head of State wants to cause harm to him.

The outgoing first in command then hit back at his estranged deputy saying he has never thought of causing harm to any of his political enemies.

But commenting on the ongoing spat between the President and the deputy president, Uhuru’s cousin Kung’u Muigai faulted the first in command for engaging his junior.

In an interview with NTV, Muigai who serves as the patron of the Kikuyu Council of Elders said the bitter exchange between the two leaders may plunge the country into a serious crisis as the 2022 presidential campaign enters the homestretch.

“Although the president is my brother, he is on the wrong. If you keep hurling insults at your small brother, he will hurl them back at you and it will hurt more because you are older,” he said.

His response came hours after Uhuru brushed off his deputy’s sensational claim that he was plotting to assassinate his political rivals ahead of the August 9 poll.

“When I call you out for telling lies, don’t go around propagating that I want to kill you. Haven’t you insulted me for three years? Haven’t I been the holder of this office for those three years?

“I had the power to do so. Now, when I am getting ready to hand over and have limited powers, do you think I have the time to look for you? Please focus on your campaigns and sell your manifesto. I am finishing up on my work,” the President said.
