President Uhuru’s mother advices Mt Kenya residents about Raila’s presidential ambition

President Uhuru’s mother Mama Ngina Kenyatta has appealed to the vote-rich Mt Kenya region to follow the political direction of her son saying he means well for the country.

Speaking in Gatundu Constituency during the burial of Nelly Wanjiku Kabangi who she said is her cousin on Tuesday, March 22, the former first lady of Kenya said the president cannot lead the country into a ditch.

“Your leader cannot direct you onto the wrong path. It is the tree stump that knows what the ants eat. I urge you to follow the political direction he is showing you,” she said.

While addressing the mourners in the Gikuyu language, Uhuru’s mother expressed disappointment at the insults that her son had been receiving from the GEMA community for backing his handshake partner Raila Odinga.

Mama Ngina also said that the head of state had no option but to reach out to ODM leader Raila Odinga after falling out with his deputy.

“He (President Uhuru) had no ill intentions against his Deputy (William Ruto). But if you are shown ill, you don’t bother, just carry on,

“To those who have turned to insults, we will leave them to it, if that is how they were raised. Let’s all love one another because this country belongs to all of us,” she said.

Last month, the Head of State officially endorsed ODM leader Raila Odinga for the presidency stating that the country was safe in his hands.

“God willing, I want to finish my term, I leave the country to people who mean well for the country and we will be meeting in the streets,” he said.

This has sparked a major uproar in the Mt Kenya region, with Deputy President William Ruto and figures close to him rejecting President Uhuru’s decision.

During a recent rally in Gatundu South, the second in command said Uhuru should be reminded about how they both supported each other when they were charged at the International Criminal Court.

“Remind him that he and I knelt down to be prayed for by the clergy and his mum, Mama Ngina Kenyatta. Even if he doesn’t want to help me in my quest to become president, kindly ask him to stay out of the presidential campaigns so that I can defeat Raila Odinga,” Ruto said.
