Presidential hopeful Reuben Kigame has asked politicians to stop pitching camp in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2022 General Election.

According to Reuben Kigame, it is immoral for politicians to camp in the area in order to fulfill their 2022 presidential ambitions.

“I don’t know why politicians are treating the people of Mt Kenya like children who cannot decide their destiny!,

“I consider it immoral to camp in somebody’s house and dictate to him and his people what they should eat or where they should sleep. They are mature enough to decide,” Presidential hopeful Reuben Kigame wrote in a tweet.

A number of presidential aspirants, who are Reuben Kigame’s opponents in the 2022 race have been frequent visitors in the Mt Kenya region, as they target the numbers from the huge voting bloc.

The region is considered as the determinant of the Presidential elections since it is known to have approximately 7 million voters.

No region in Kenya has been visited so frequently by all 2022 presidential hopefuls like the Mt Kenya region and perhaps Reuben Kigame has a point after all.

The 2017 General Election showed that the Mt Kenya region not only has the tyranny of numbers but the highest percentage of voter turnout in the country.

Because of this, top Presidential aspirants such as Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto have been salivating to have a share of the region’s cake.

For Raila Odinga, he seeks to win the Mt Kenya voters by reviving its agricultural economy.

The ODM leader has been holding meetings with delegates and rich businessmen in the region, seeking their support.

On the other hand, DP Ruto has been a frequent visitor there, attending church functions and interacting with residents on the streets.

The region has become a hard nut to crack for Ruto as he faces problems with some of his allies from Mt. Kenya.

Led by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri, the leaders have refused calls to fully join Ruto’s UDA party.
