A section of ODM leader Raila Odinga’s supporters on Wednesday, March 15, took to the streets of Kisumu to protest in readiness for the Monday, March 20, 2023, mass action called by the ODM party leader.

Armed with chants, the protestors who invaded the streets in Kisumu to demonstrate the high cost of living stormed an event chaired by Communications Authority of Kenya Director-General Ezra Chiloba.

The High-Level Roundtable event was being held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex to mark World Consumer Rights Day.

However, just minutes after Chiloba started addressing the meeting, the protestors stormed in forcing him to cut short his speech and flee for his safety.

The local media further reported that the protestors stormed the catering services and took away all food, leaving organizers and guests stranded.

One of the protestors who rallied the crowd to prepare for the Monday, March 20, mass action was quoted saying they owe no one an apology adding that they have a right to pick whatever they wish.

“We owe no one an apology. We have a right to picket and therefore we say, Ruto must go. On Monday, March 20, all of us are going to Nairobi and going to tell Ruto to get out of State House,” he stated.

The incident saw Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo who was among the chief guests snub the event.

The incident happened just a day after Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathew Owili affirmed that they would rehearse on Wednesday and Friday in honor of Raila’s call for mass action.

“We as the leaders of Kisumu County will be standing with Raila Odinga in his quest to bring back this country to sanity… We will be joining the demonstrations the two minor demonstrations that will be taking place on Wednesday and Friday,” he said.
