Migori county governor Okoth Obado has raised eyebrows after missing Deputy President William Ruto‘s rally in Migori on Sunday, January 9.

Obado has in the past been considered a close ally of the DP and has previously been at the center of his Nyanza region tours.

The governor who is serving on his second and last term was re-elected on an ODM ticket but has been having wrangles with the party leadership after he was seen hanging around Ruto.

His absence at the DP’s rally on Sunday signals there could be cracks in their relationship.

Speaking to Daily Nation, however, Obado said the fact he has hosted RRurto before does not mean he supports United Democratic Alliance (UDA) political narrative.

The combative politician\ maintained that he is a presidential hopeful candidate too.

“When I host the DP in Migori it does not mean I have defected to the hustler nation (UDA). I only do it courtesy of the fact he is a Deputy President,” Obado told the Daily Nation.

He went ahead to explain that he missed the Sunday rally because he was held up at Kamagambo where a person had been trapped after gold mines carved in.

Last year, Obado vowed to support Ruto’s presidential bid after he hosted him twice in Migori county.

A close ally to Obado told Daily Nation that the political ground has shifted to the extent the governor has been branded a traitor hence his sudden change of heart toward Ruto.

“The ground has shifted Politically. The governor is weighing his options. His association with (William) Ruto has made him be viewed as a traitor,” said the source.

If he leaves Ruto’s camp, Obado will join Kirinyaga County Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici, who dumped William Ruto over claims she was mistreated in UDA.
