Raha Jipe mwenyewe: Ex-President makes impromptu appearance at Diani festival

Ex-president Uhuru Kenyatta seems to be enjoying his retirement life after serving the country for two consecutive terms.

The former Head of State was over the weekend filmed vacationing in the Kenyan Coast.

Uhuru who peacefully handed over power to President William Ruto in 2022, the former first in command joined locals at the famous Diani festival.

President William Ruto’s predecessor who was breezing at the coast made an impromptu appearance at the Safari Park Hotel where the Annual Diani Beach Ngalawa Regatta was being held.

In the video footage shared by the Daily Nation, Uhuru also participated in gifting the winner of the 10th edition of the Diani Regatta Ngalawa Festival his prize, which was a trophy of a make-shift fish.

“Congratulations on the nice work,” Uhuru told the winner of the 2023 canoe racing competition Hassan Jumwa while handing him the trophy.

Uhuru later proceeded to have a photo session with several residents who flanked the winner before he returned to the hotel after thanking the locals.

The Diani annual festival allows fishermen to not only showcase traditional culture but also help them acquire tools to enhance their trade and support families, which is beside the huge market of spectators that locals access to market and sell their products.

Situated about 30km (19 miles) south of Mombasa, Diani Beach is a long-time traveler favorite, with a long stretch of soft, powder-white sand, and an excellent and vast choice of hotels, hostels, and serviced beach villas, as well as countless restaurants and bars.

Hosted by the Nomad at the Sands Beach Bar and Restaurant, the food festival brings together the best restaurants in Diani to showcase their culinary prowess.
