Analysts have billed the August 9, presidential election as one of the most competitive in Kenya’s history, pitting Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party flag bearer Raila Odinga against Kenya Kwanza Alliance’s William Ruto.
Several opinion polls revealed that neither Raila Odinga nor Deputy President William Ruto will win the presidency in round one.
Despite not producing an outright winner, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will beat his arch-rival William Ruto in a presidential race if elections were held today.
The latest survey conducted by the Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) established that Raila who is giving his fifth stab at the country’s top seat still maintains a narrow lead over William Ruto.
The research findings released on Monday, July 11, indicated that Raila who is presumably vying for the last time enjoys national support of 42 percent.
He is followed closely by the 2022 presidential front runner William Ruto, who enjoys 39 percent popularity.
“Raila has a slight lead of 3 percent against Ruto,” Tom Wolf, Tifa Lead Researcher said.
The survey conducted between Saturday, June 25, and Thursday, June 30, where 1,533 respondents were interviewed further revealed that 10 percent of the total voters are still undecided 28 days to the polls.
Roots Party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah was ranked third as his controversial manifesto which is anchored on the legalization of bhang and prostitution is supported by only 4 percent of the electorate.
According to the poll, no coalition, between Azimio-One Kenya and Kenya Kwanza currently draws two-thirds support from any of the nine zones, which points to why the two teams continue to crisscross while campaigning.
