Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa now claims that ODM leader Raila Odinga will be a one-term president.
While drumming up support for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake partner, Wamalwa asked the Luhya community to rally behind Raila so that he can easily hand over power to them once he retires at the end of his first term.
Speaking in Bungoma town on Sunday, December 26, Wamalwa who was accompanied by DAP-K party leader Wafula Wamunyinyi and Party Secretary-General Eseli Simiyu said unlike Deputy President William Ruto who was young and energetic and would have to serve for two terms, Raila will not stay long in power.
“As the Luhya community we should choose which route is easy in the succession politics, Odinga is old and will only serve one term, if we are loyal it is easy for us to be in the main succession politics,” Wamalwa said.
The CS further revealed that he was coerced to form the DAP-K party to support the Azimio La Umoja after Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula appeared to lean towards the nascent One Kenya Alliance.
This comes barely a month after ODM deputy party leader Hassan Joho gave the clearest indication that Raila might only serve for one term as president should he be elected to office in the 2022 General Election.
The Mombasa Governor, who had earlier indicated he would challenge Raila for the ODM presidential nomination ticket, said he shelved the plan after realizing that the 76-year-old presidential hopeful would only serve for one term and pass over the mantle to him.
“I want (Baba) Raila Odinga to win in the 2022 General Election so that by 2027 he can let me go,” Joho said suggesting that Raila, will be a one-term president.
