Kenya’s President William Ruto has reprimanded the ongoing bi-weekly mass protests called by opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Ruto who is in Germany for a four-day official state visit said Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga is using the cost of living to drive his selfish agenda.
Speaking to Germany’s DW, Ruto said the anti-government protests by Raila have little to do with the current high cost of living but are mostly about the 2022 election, which he says were settled.
“The riots in Nairobi are not so much about the cost of living. It is so much about some election results which were a settled matter. But of course, because the cost of living is a pregnant issue, it is an emotive issue. Our competitors are trying to take advantage of it,” the president said.
But in a quick rejoinder, the former Prime Minister stopped talking about him and the Kenyan matters to Europeans.
Speaking during a meeting with business leaders and citizens in Kibra on Wednesday, March 29, Raila instead told the Head of State to come and solve their differences at home.
He further insisted that he will not tire until the president expedites the opening of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers to ascertain who won the 2022 presidential election.
“Hakuna haja ya William Ruto kuenda kule Ujerumani kuongea juu ya mambo ya Raila. Njoo tuongee hapa Kenya… Fungua server tujue ni kitu gani iko ndani ya server,”Raila said.
Loosely translated to: “There’s no need for William Ruto to go to Germany to bad mouth me. Come back home and solve the problems to have left her. Open the server for the world to know what it entails. Stop shouting abroad, come here and do what Kenyans are demanding you to do.”
