Raila claima Wetang’ula married from same home as IEBC boss Chebukati

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga has poked holes into the ongoing probe of what happened ahead of the announcement of the 2022 presidential results.

So far, the tribunal led by Justice Muchelule has investigated the only remaining IEBC Commissioner Irene Masit after she disowned the presidential results announced by then Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

But speaking on Sunday, January 29, during the much-hyped Jacaranda rally, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga termed the tribunal investigating the four dissenting IEBC commissioners as a mere sham.

Raila revealed that the tribunal’s chairman Justice Aggrey Muchelule, former IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, and National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula are in-laws.

“Bwana Chebukati na Muchelule ni mwanyumba. Yaani bibi zao ni dada na mke wa Wetang’ula ametoka hapo hapo (Muchelule and Chebukati are brothers-in-law because their wives are sisters. even Wetang’ula married from the same home),” Raila said.

“One of them stole elections, the other is the National Assembly Speaker and the other one is the chair of the tribunal. I told Masit she is a sheep in a court full of wolves,” he added.

After the 2022 elections, there were accusations that IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati colluded with ex-Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula to give the ballot paper printing tender to the Greek firm Inform Lykos.

“We know that you (Wetangula) held meetings severally in Karen with the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati. You (Wetangula) can go to court if you want. We know every detail of those meetings,” Junet said.

Chebukati, however, termed the claims as mere propaganda only meant to derail IEBC’s work ahead of the August General Election.

“I have never been to Wetang’ula’s home. It is sad that at this point, there are people who are hell-bent on profiling IEBC commissioners,” Chebukati said.
