Raila drops hints of working with Kalonzo ahead of the 2022 elections

by Enock Ndayala

ODM leader Raila Odinga has dropped the clearest hint he may reunite with his 2013 and 2017 presidential running mate Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2022 General Election.

Speaking at the Kasarani Gymnasium on Thursday, November 25, where Kalonzo was endorsed to fly Wiper Democratic Party’s presidential flag in the 2022 elections, Raila said their paths shall surely meet again.

“I am sure what Kalonzo (Musyoka) wants is what Raila wants. Going forward our roads will meet again. Come December 9, 2021, I will speak,” Raila said.

Raila further took a swipe at ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi’s foot soldier and Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala who complained after Kalonzo invited the former Prime Minister to his presidential endorsement launch.

“I heard others whispering why Raila had been invited. Raila and Kalonzo are brothers. Let me ask you this; if my younger brother has a wedding should I not attend?,” Raila posed.

There has been speculation Kalonzo Musyoka might deputise Raila Odinga again in 2022 despite the Wiper leader insisting he cannot work with Raila Odinga again.

Their 2017 presidential election political vehicle NASA collapsed and individual party including that of Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi leaving to form now One Kenya Alliance which also included KANU.

Speaking at the same event, the Wiper leader poked holes at Raila Odinga’s KSh 6k social welfare plan as well as that of Deputy President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up economic model.

“There is no such thing as free money. How many times have you been promised free laptops, efficient water? In fact, some of them promise showers in the grass-thatched houses,” Kalonzo said.

In June 2021, Kalonzo who has deputized Raila for a record two times said he would not play a second fiddle and that he will only work with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake partner only if he joins the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) as an equal partner.

“It will be unthinkable to support (Raila) Odinga for the third time. I will be the most stupid person to once again support his bid without a measure of reciprocity,” Kalonzo stated.
