The Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga is set to take the first campaign rally of 2022 to Mt. Kenya, with a rally in Thika.

The rally to be held at Thika Stadium, Kiambu County on Saturday, January 15 will kick start his official campaign of the year.

Speaking today January 11, 2022, while addressing Mt Kenya youths at Jaramogi Oginga Foundation offices, Raila said he will address residents in a bid to popularise his presidential bid.

“Saturday (January 15), we are in Thika(sic). We are going to have our first public engagement in 2022 in Thika,” Raila said.

Raila said the Thika rally will give him an opportunity to speak to the people of Murang’a and Kiambu County.

Since the year began, Raila has not held a political rally only attended funerals in Nakuru and Kajiado counties.

Being the backyard of his handshake partner President Uhuru Kenyatta, Jubilee elected leaders are expected to attend the rally.

On the contrary, his main 2022 opponent Deputy President William Ruto has taken a break from the campaign trail after a busy schedule.

For the past week, the Deputy President has pitched camp in Western, Nyanza and Rift Valley where he popularised his party of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and his presidential bid.

DP’s Director of Communication Emmanuel Talam told The Star Newspaper that Ruto had retreated to his official Karen Residence to review ‘past event.’

He added that it’s the opportune time for the DP to engage with his advisors and strategies on the next campaigns.

“The Deputy President is in Karen reviewing the past events and planning for the next campaign circuit.” Talam said.
