by Enock Ndayala

ODM leader Raila Odinga has exuded confidence that he will trounce Deputy President William Ruto in the August 9 presidential polls.

While terming the deputy president as s ‘lightweight political kid’, the former prime minister dared the second in command to face off with him if indeed he is a man enough.

Addressing mourners at Kanga Primary on Thursday, March 3, during the funeral of Mzee Jared Osiany, the father of Industrialisation CAS David Osiany, the presidential hopeful further criticized Ruto for referring to him as a ‘state project.’

“He (William Ruto) has been constantly referring to me as a ‘state project’. If he is man enough, let him face off with me on August 9, and he will know that he was once my political student,”

“After holding him in my hands, I realized that he is a juvenile who I will trounce in the polls,” Raila said.

The deputy president has been referring to the ODM leader as a ‘state project’ in most of his campaigns to popularize his bottom-up economic model.

While urging Kenyans not to vote for the former Prime Minister, Ruto has been claiming that Raila who has received the backing of the outgoing president will only defend the interests of a few billionaires if elected the fifth president.

But on Saturday, February 26, Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta denied utterances by his estranged deputy that Raila is getting the backing of the State in the August elections.

“If you have failed in organizing yourself and has panicked, the easiest thing is to call your competitor a project…We shall crisscross the country together and after two weeks we will retreat here and unveil our joint candidate as Azimio la Umoja,” the President said.
