Raila Odinga terms those opposed to Gladys Wanga’s gubernatorial bid, ‘fools like their mothers’

A report by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) indicated that flour from the Kigoto maize milling plant that was launched by ODM leader Raila Odinga is unfit for human consumption.

The ODM leader Raila Odinga used derogatory words while hitting out at those opposed to lawmaker Gladys Wanga’s gubernatorial bid.

Wanga has in the recent past faced criticism over her candidature with her competitors terming her an outsider who does not understand the issues facing Homa Bay residents.

Speaking in Nyasore Village in Kabondo Kasipul Constituency on Monday, April 18 during the burial of Kenya’s Ambassador to Qatar Paddy Ahenda the ODM leader said there is nothing wrong with Wanga’s candidature.

The ODM boss defended Wanga, saying women should not be denied democratic rights simply because they were born at a different place from where they got married.

“Jok moko wacho ni mano (Wanga) ng’ama ne onyuol Kano, kasto okende lokani. Mano ng’ama ofuwo kamin mare,” the ODM leader said.

Loosely translated to ” Some people say Wanga was born in Kano [which is not in Homa Bay County], and she now wants to run for Governor in Homa Bay County. Those who are opposing her candidature based on that thinking are as foolish as their mothers,”

Wanga who is the current Homa Bay Woman Representative was born and raised in Kano, Muhoroni Constituency in Kisumu County, but is married in Rangwe Constituency, Homa Bay County.

“We shouldn’t discriminate any aspirant because they are not natives of the counties that they’re seeking votes in. Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay or Migori counties belong to one people. Let’s reject division efforts by our detractors,” Raila added.

Recently the former prime minister-led party, the ODM settled on Wanga as it’s a gubernatorial candidate for Homa Bay a move that angered ex-Nairobi Governor Evan Kidero.

“I knew that at the end of the day, only one person would clinch the governor’s ticket, even if ten aspirants competed. I asked the aspirants to agree among themselves, and they settled on Gladys Wanga,” Raila said while defending the issuance of a direct ticket to Wanga.

Already Kidero, who is considered to be monied than Wanga, has declared to vie as an independent candidate in what is promising to be a bruising battle to alter the ODM wave.

Kenyans took to social media to admonish Raila some accusing him of being insensitive with the choice of words, especially those touching on the women.
