The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party led by Raila Odinga has invited President Uhuru Kenyatta to grace their National Delegates Convention, (NDC) slated for Saturday, February 26.

The National Chairman of ODM John Mbadi on Monday, February 22, revealed that the party had invited President Uhuru Kenyatta in his capacity as the Jubilee Party leader alongside other local and international dignitaries.

“This year’s ODM NDC will be unique because we expect to have guests who have never joined us in such an event. We have invited the President in his capacity as the party leader for Jubilee. We hope and expect him to attend,” said Mbadi told The People Daily.

Mbadi added that the NDC will only be open to legitimate delegates and invited guests, advising the general public to follow the proceeding on television and online platforms.

“We will first have the delegates somewhere where we will scrutinize them before they are taken to Kasarani. We will ensure that only those who are supposed to attend are in the meeting,” he said.

“The National Delegates Convention is not a public rally but a legal and constitutional meeting where only delegates meet to make important decisions for the party and on behalf of the rest of the party membership. Only accredited delegates, observers, and media personnel will be allowed into the venues of both meetings,” he said.

The strict measures being put in place by ODM could as a result of some delegates petitioning the Political Parties Tribunal requesting it to cancel the event.

The convention will be held at the Kasarani Indoor Gymnasium, will be used by the party to officially nominate Raila Odinga as the party’s presidential candidate.

Before attending the ODM event, President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to lead Jubilee Party on Friday, February 25, to throw its weight behind the former prime minister’s presidential bid.
