Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has accused four former National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principals of supporting the BBI for the sake of the 2022 General Election.

According to Murkomen, Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula are only backing up the bill to get an endorsement from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“To our Judges who may never understand politics, as your younger brother let me assure you that many Politicians don’t believe in BBI. Kalonzo, Mudavadi & Wetangula are doing it for Uhuru’s endorsement.  Raila is for finishing the journey,” wrote Murkomen on his Twitter page.

There are however plans to appeal against the High Court judgement.

ODM leader Raila Odinga said that he was disappointed by the decision of the 5-judge bench, but would follow the right legal process to appeal.

“Supporters of the Constitution Amendment Bill, including myself, have been disappointed by the High Court ruling. We may disagree with the court but we must respect its ruling and its freedom to exercise its judgment as it understands the legal and constitutional matters before it,” Raila said.

On the other hand, Musalia Mudavadi called on parliament to salvage the bill to avoid constitutional pitfalls.

“We should not throw out the baby with the bathwater. There must be a silver lining out of the court’s judgment and this is what we must look as a nation.  We recommend and appeal to all leaders to consider a return to the conversation table and restart an inclusive national dialogue,” he urged.

Kalonzo Musyoka also disagreed with the court ruling, but asked Kenyans to respect it.

“Even though some of us may disagree with various declarations made in that high voltage judgment, we can disagree without being disagreeable,” he said.
