ODM leader Raila Odinga has hired the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) chair Makau Mutua as his 2022 presidential spokesperson and campaign secretariat.

The distinguished New York State University Professor will also head Raila Odinga’s campaign think tank.

“It is my pleasure to appoint Prof Makau Mutua as the spokesperson of the Raila Odinga 2022 Presidential Campaign and head of its Think Tank,” Raila said in a statement sent to newsrooms on Tuesday, March 1.

Mutua, a fierce critic of Deputy President William Ruto takes over the roles initially held by Chief Executive Officer of Odinga’s presidential campaign Elizabeth Meyo.

During the Sagana III meeting in Nyeri, the political analyst labeled President Uhuru Kenyatta’s endorsement of the ODM leader as a game-changer.

Mutua said President Kenyatta’s words have a swaying influence on Kenya’s huge voting bloc owing to the fact that he has been in charge of the country for the better part of a decade.

“If President Uhuru Kenyatta has worked for 10 years and has decided that William Ruto is an empty suit for whatever reasons, he is entitled to that but Kenyans ought to take that into account because this is a person who knows the other person well,” he said.

Last week, the professor amplified his support for Raila during a talk show on Spice FM, referring to the ODM leader as Kenya’s ‘Mandela’.

“Difficult moments call for people have been tried and tested, and who have delivered. People who have stood in the breach for the country and who have served selflessly and who do not seek something for themselves,

“People who in their public and private lives demonstrate a love for the country. I know Raila has tried to move this country forward. Raila is our Mandela,” he said.
