William Ruto to possibly face Raila, Kalonzo in 2022

by Enock Ndayala

Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto could face Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2022 presidential election after the duo yesterday dropped the clearest hint they will be working on reviving the National Super Alliance (NASA) ahead of the next yearsw General Election.

Raila and Kalonzo have been reading from different scripts after Raila allegedly ‘betrayed’ other NASA principals when he secretly shook hands with President Uhuru Kenyatta in March 2018.

This saw Kalonzo Musyoka and the other two NASA principals Moses Wetang’ula and ANC Musalia Mudavadi join KANU’s Gideon Moi to form the One Kenya Alliance.

However, speaking at a funeral of former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile in Makueni County, Raila said there is no way he can work without Kalonzo and expect to defeat Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto in the forthcoming General Election.

“There is no way we can disagree with Kalonzo. We shall work together to defeat pretenders eying the country’s top seat,” said former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Odinga who spoke before Kalonzo Musyoka was responding to a call by Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu who called on two to work together ahead of the 2022 General Election if they want to form the next government.

“If Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga fail to unite ahead of 2022, then William Ruto’s chances of success will be high. We must accept and work with Raila so that we beat Ruto [in the 2022 presidential election],” she said.

Musyoka on his part said the two were still working on to revive the once most vibrant coalition that faced President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 General Election.

“We are still working on something and soon the outcome will be known. We off course have NASA because the principals have not disbanded it,” Musyoka said.

Kivumbi.co.ke understands that the One Kenya Alliance bringing together Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetang’ula and Gideon Moi could be on the verge of collapsing if the current divisions within the coalition will not be handled on time.
