The ODM leader Raila Odinga and his Azimio la Umoja team were attacked by rowdy youths after attending the burial of businessman Jackson Kibor.

On Friday, April 1, the chopper carrying the ODM leader was pelted with stones by youths suspected to be allied to the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

Taking to social media, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed revealed that the chopper was damaged forcing them to seek alternative means of transport.

“Today we almost got killed in soy constituency Uasin Gishu County at the Burial of Mzee Jackson Kibor. Our chopper was completely destroyed and we had to look for alternative means mid-air,” Junet tweeted.

In a statement to the newsroom, the former prime minister pointed an accusing finger at Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago and Soi MP Caleb Kositany saying the two should be held accountable for what happened.

“In the event that took place at Kabenes in Uasin Gishu, youth attacked my plane, destroying the air shield with rocks that were clearly aimed at me. On my way to the plane, they had pelted my vehicles with stones,” said Odinga in a statement.

“For today’s unfortunate events, I hold Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago and Soy MP. Hon. Caleb Kositany responsible. I call on the two, and all leaders from the region who believe in our constitution, to come out now, not later, condemn the incident and promise an end to the bizarre attempts to balkanize the country into ethnic and tribal party zones ahead of August election” Raila stated.

Earlier in the day, the ODM leader was forced to prematurely end his political rally in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet after youth started heckling him.

The Azimio la Umoja presidential flag bearer in this year’s General Election who was addressing a political rally in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County faced hostility prompting him to scamper for his safety.
