Raila Odinga claims William Ruto wanted to eliminate him

by Enock Ndayala
Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s ODM party has scoffed at those criticizing President William Ruto’s unending foreign trips.

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga now claims that his political nemesis William Ruto wanted him dead.

On Friday, April 1, ODM leader Raila Odinga’s convoy was pelted with stones by rowdy youths raising fears of the return of political violence in the country ahead of the August election.

Speaking on Sunday, April 24, in Washington DC, the former prime minister said the attackers were hired to kill them.

“Some goons were hired and they actually wanted to kill us… The attack was vicious, were it not for the actions of the police officers the damage could have been much more devastating,” Raila said, amid chants of “Shindwe kabisa!” from the audience.

Although he did not mention William Ruto, Raila was ostensibly referring to Deputy President William Ruto who is his formidable competitor in the August 9, 2022 state house race.

During a town hall meeting with Kenyans living in the diaspora, Raila said that he was even aware of the supposed plan ahead of businessman Jackson Kibor’s burial.

He said his team had information of the attack on a material morning and even made attempts to adjust his schedule to avoid the goons.

“The goons had the plans in place. They knew at what time we would arrive and the type of transport we had planned on using,” Raila said.

Following the attacks, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations summoned Soy MP Caleb Kositany, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, and Uasin Ngishu county speaker David Kiplagat as the main planners and funders of the violence meted on the ODM leader.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the chaos was organized and coordinated by  Soy MP Caleb Kositany, Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi, and David Kiplagat, speaker of Uasin Gishu County Assembly,” the DCI said.
