Raila Odinga criticizes President Uhuru’s failed free laptop scheme

by Nderi Caren
Deputy President William Ruto blasted President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for running down the economy.

ODM leader Raila Odinga has criticized the free laptop scheme that was part of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s campaign manifesto in the 2017 elections.

In a post on his Social Media, Odinga told the youths to forget the empty promise by the Jubilee administration since he has a better offer for them.

Raila said that the Laptop scheme was used to trick the youth into voting for President Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto.

“To the youth, I’ve heard and listened to you across the nation. Sita walet (I will not let you) down. I promise a better Kenya for you.

Kutoka free laptops, stadiums, jobs… mlibebwa ndogo! Kuweni rada msibebwe mafala tena. (From free laptops, stadiums, jobs, you were underrated. Be careful not to be conned again.),” he wrote.

While promising the free laptop scheme, Uhuru and Ruto also promised to build 9 stadiums in the country within a period of six months.

“In six months’ time, the stadium in Wote will be complete as will that one in Chuka.

In three months, the stadium in Moyale will be complete. In six months, another stadium in West Pokot will be complete and that will be historic.

In a couple of months the stadium in Kiambu will be done. In a couple of months, Nyeri stadium will be done.

In Kisumu and Mombasa we have a few challenges, but once sorted, the stadiums will be ready, so instead of five (we promised in 2013), we have gone for 11 just to make it better,” Ruto said at the presence of Uhuru while launching their manifesto in 2017.

On his part, Raila Odinga has promised to give KSh 6,000 to unemployed youths instead of the shrewd Laptop schemes.

“I want to see if every Kenyan gets a job, those who do not get jobs means there will be social welfare states, they will get every month from the government six thousand shillings,” he said during a rally in Naivasha on Sunday, October 10.
