Raila Odinga endorses Tim Wanyonyi for Nairobi governor

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has received a major boost toward his Nairobi County gubernatorial bid, as Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga indirectly endorsed his candidature.

Speaking in Kawangware Estate in a campaign trail of Nairobi County, Raila introduced Wanyonyi as the next governor of Nairobi, a clear hint that the MP is his preferred choice for the highly contested seat.

“I am here with a big team. Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, former Dagoreti South MP Dennis Waweru, Mama Beatrice Elachi, and next Nairobi Governor Tim Wanyonyi,” Raila said.

In his address at the same rally, Wanyonyi urged Nairobi residents to support Raila Odinga’s presidential bid saying that Raila is well-positioned to steer the country in the right direction.

“It is a must we take Raila Odinga to State House within 90 minutes,” Wanyonyi said as he addressed the residents.

Raila’s pronouncement comes amid claims that the ODM party might relinquish the gubernatorial seat to the Jubilee party in what could be a negotiated deal ahead of the August 9 election.

According to some unverified sources, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) president Richard Ngatia is the preferred candidate for the Azimio la Umoja movement.

Nairobi County gubernatorial seat has attracted a number of strong candidates eying the position in what promises to be a battle of titans.

The seating governor of Nairobi, Ann Kananu has also expressed her desire to retain her seat in the upcoming election.

Businesswoman Agnes Kagure, also recently launched her campaign for the most sort seat in a colorful event that send political shockwaves in Nairobi.

Having been endorsed by Raila, the Westland MP’s first challenge will be getting the node of the Azimio movement before facing candidates from other coalitions on August 9.

With the signing into law the Political Parties Amendment Bill by President Uhuru Kenya, there is a high probability that Azimio la Umoja will have joint nominations, especially in the Nairobi County seats.
