Raila Odinga former ally among hundred scrambling for top IEBC job

Raila Odinga’s former ally and NASA CEO Norman Magaya has applied for the position of commissioner at IEBC.

Magaya is among 699 contestants who are scrambling for jobs left vacant after the resignation of four members of IEBC commission.

The positions to be filled were previously owned by Roselyn Akombe, Paul Kurgat, Margaret Mwachanya and Connie Maina who stepped out citing skewed 2017 polls.

IEBC said that the applicants will undergo a vigorous interview session to be conducted for 5 days. They are set to commence between May 31 and June 4 and proceed for days considering the huge number of applications.

Norman Magaya is a notable candidate because of his broken relationship with ODM Leader Raila Odinga.

His tribulations began way before his fallout with Raila. In August 2017, Norman Magaya collapsed at the Bomas of Kenya during the national tallying exercise.

He was admitted at the Nairobi Hospital, but his condition did not improve. With the help of Raila, Magaya was flown for treatment abroad.

After jetting back to the country, he continued receiving his medications, but the poor health affected his operations and could not work for a long time.

The poor health turned Magaya into a broken person, accusing ODM of failing to support him despite the sacrifices he had made for them.

When the economic conditions became unbearable, Magaya turned suicidal, saying that he was suffering because of his political stand.

“I am on the verge of eviction and embarrassment, I fear nothing, absolutely nothing! From the cold street with my toddler daughters, I shall rise high for God is with me.

“As the true son of my late father and mother, I shall not beg. I am ready for the consequences and enough of tormenting me and my innocent kids. I have no duty to please anyone. Goodbye world!” Magaya tweeted before going missing for some hours. This attracted uproar from members of the public, who accused Raila of abandoning the NASA CEO.
