Raila Odinga: I am sure President Uhuru will not play me

Rtd. President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party has threatened to terminate its pre-election contract with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s ODM that birthed Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party.

ODM party leader Raila Odinga Raila has dismissed allegations that President Uhuru Kenyatta will shortchange him in the forthcoming elections.

Speaking during the ODM National Governing Convention (NDC) on Friday, February 25, the former prime minister said he had a deep conversation with the head of state and that he will not abandon him.

“People said Uhuru is cheating you and he will abandon you. I told them I know he will not. I was certain because we had deep conversations and we agreed that this country needs to be moved to where the ancestors want it to be,” Raila Odinga said.

Raila said his March 2018 handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta will not die after the end of the August 9 General Election.

“When we take over, we will continue with the work he has started and move on. This bond will not die with the elections. The elections are just going to strengthen it and we will work together moving forward,” he said.

Raila said he was reluctant to give a fifth stab at the presidency but decided to throw his hat at the ring after getting a nod from President Uhuru and the Kenyans on December 10, 2021.

“I was reluctant to contest for the presidency for the fifth time. I had to ask the people of Kenya if I should contest, and after getting the nod, on Dec 10, I responded to the request,” he said.

This comes just a day after the first in command officially endorsed the former prime minister for the presidency in the forthcoming presidential election.

“An old man on a stool sees further than a boy on a tree. Let me stick with the old man (Raila) who I can talk to,” President Uhuru said.
