Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga has disputed the August 9, presidential results announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
On Monday, August 15, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati declared Raila’s main challenger William Ruto as the fifth President-elect of Kenya.
According to the results announced, Ruto garnered 7, 176, 141 votes representing 50.49 percent of the total valid votes cast.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake partner on the other hand scooped 6,942,930 votes.
Addressing journalists at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Tuesday, August 16, Railam who has been disputing presidential results since 2007, said the figures announced by Wafula Chebukati are null and void and that they must be quashed by a Court of Law.
“Our view in Azimio (la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party) is clear, the figures by Wafula Chebukati are null and void and must be quashed by a court of law. In our view there is neither a legally and validly declared winner nor a president-elect,” Raila said.
The former Prime Minister, who was giving his fifth and presumed last attempt at the presidency, said he will pursue a constitutional channel to invalidate the announcement.
