by Enock Ndayala

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has called on the Inspector of Police and the Judiciary to bring to end the skyrocketing cases of children murders and disappearances of minors and women.

According to an official report by Missing Child Kenya, at least 242 children aged 18 and below were reported missing between January and December 2020.

In a statement to newsrooms on Monday, July 19, the ODM leader challenged the police to immediately arrest and prosecutes all the culprits involved in children murders.

“Girls and women are being killed in cold blood by supposed lovers, husbands, and even parents. Children are being plucked from their playground, on their way to school and worship places, and even from balconies and doorsteps of their parents’ and slaughtered by adults,

“I want to call upon the National Police Service to assure Kenyans that it is up to the task of protecting particularly children, girls, and women,

“Police must assure Kenyans that an individual will not pluck and kill two, four, or five children or girls before the ring is detected and crushed,” he lamented.

The presidential hopeful stated that the Judiciary must also assure Kenyans that justice will be served swiftly and fairly in cases where lives have been senselessly lost, adding that delayed justice only makes perpetrators bolder.

“The Judiciary must also assure Kenyans that justice will come swiftly and fairly where lives have been senselessly lost. Justice is taking too long to come if it ever does for the victims. The delays only prolong the pain and make beasts bolder,” Odinga said.

Raila’s remarks come barely days after Police arrested a suspect they believe has been behind the recent series of kidnappings in Nairobi ad its environments.

Masten Milimu Wanjala, 20, was nabbed in Shauri Moyo on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, in connection with two missing children aged 13 and 12.

“20-year-old Masten Milimu Wanjala, in a shocking revelation, admitted to having kidnapped the children and executed them in cold blood during interrogation he revealed to detectives that he executed the harmless children and dumped their bodies,” police said.
