Chaos rocked Azimio Umoja-One Kenya presidential aspirant, Raila Odinga’s rally in Mkomani, Mombasa after rowdy youths attacked former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko’s convoy.

The fracas happened on Saturday, May 14 after Sonko who had arrived late tried to force his entry to the podium where other leaders were seated.

The ODM supporters seemed annoyed with Sonko’s move to have a grand entry when other leaders including the ODM leader were already seated.

Police were forced to fire in the air to disperse the rowdy youth who expressed their agitation at Mike Sonko’s decision to join the Mombasa gubernatorial race.

From the video, the event MC of the day is heard pleading with the group to cease the confrontations and allow the rally to continue peacefully.

The ex-governor left the venue after the crowd became determined in ensuring he does not access the podium.

The flamboyant politician had earlier stated that he will be present at the Azimio rally since his party Wiper, is backing Raila Odinga.

After several minutes of unrest, a relative calm resumed and the rally went on uninterrupted as leaders castigated the move by Sonko to join Mombasa gubernatorial race.

The Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu hit out at the Mombasa gubernatorial hopeful saying it was wrong for his convoy to drive in the middle of the field where people were sitting.

Sonko who is being fronted by the Wiper party is battling out with Abdulswamad Nassir of ODM, and Hassan Omar of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is seeking to succeed Ali Hassan Joho as Mombasa Governor.
