Raila Odinga supporters frustrate Kenya Kwanza rally in Atwoli’s home area

by Amos Khaemba

Supporters of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday, February 8, frustrated the Kenya Kwanza alliance rally in Francis Atwoli’s home area.

While Deputy President William Ruto, was addressing the gathering at Khweisero market, a section of the crowd could be heard chanting Azimio! Azimio! Azimio!

In a video that surfaced online, the youths who were strategically placed responded Azimio to any question posed by DP Ruto.

Spirited effort by the rowdy youths to interfere with DP Ruto’s speech did not succeed as the second in command continued with his speech unbothered.

Ruto said he joined hands with Mudavadi and Wetang’ula under Kenya Kwanza with the main purpose to uplift the economic wellbeing of the less privileged.

He castigated President Uhuru and his Handshake partners Raila Odinga for championing Constitutional changes saying such changes are only meant to benefit a few people.

Speaking at the same rally, Musalia Mudavadi warned COTU boss Francis Atwoli to stop taking credit for his political journey saying he has contributed nothing is his long career in politics

A visibly agitated Mudavadi reminded Atwoli that he has been in politics since 1989 where he has worked as a minister in various ministries even as the vice-president without the support of the COTU boss.

“I want to tell our Old man from our region. I want to tell Atwoli, Mr. Atwoli, please, please Atwoli you did not make me a politician, you did not bring me into politics, you have contributed nothing to my success or my failures, leave me alone,” Mudavadi said.

The move by the youths to boo the Kenya Kwanza team comes less than two weeks after the area MP, Christopher Aseka decamped from ANC and joined Azimio la Umoja.

“The past two months I’ve not seen a future with ANC. We as ANC have always been team Raila no they have started making deals with DP William Ruto,” Aseka told a gathering in Kwisero while announcing his defections.

Coincidentally, Khwisero is the hometown of COTU boss Francis Atwoli who is a strong proponent of ODM leader Raila Odinga a fierce critic of the Kenya Kwanza alliance team.
